About MCC Transgender Ministries

The MCC Transgender Resource Team was formed in 2005 with the intention of providing quality, enduring resources to local churches and MCC constituents regarding our transgender and genderqueer communities.  The team began as part of the overall assessment of resources available to transgender constituents of MCC in the 2005 website redesign project and was instigated by MCC staff member, Rev. Melanie “Mel” Martinez.

In 2006, the TRT released MCC’s first TransEtiquette and TransGlossary, foundational documents for further work on an MCC trans-faith curriculum.

2007 brought the addition of staff member, Angel Collie, to the TRT to assist with coordination of an MCC trans-faith curriculum. From the original TRT, MCC Transgender Ministries was born.

Each year, MCC Transgender Ministries coordinates a Transgender Day of Remembrance resource kit for use in local congregations and receives MCC-wide distribution. In following in line with  Transgender Curriculum Development, Training and Implementation we realized the need for a Transgender Day of Remembrance Resource and released the first
version in 2007.  This resource site was launched for the 2009 TDOR observance.
